In the Spring of 2009 Dr. Call was asked by the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, the Oklahoma Department of Health, and the Oklahoma Medical Reserve Corps to be the Volunteer Coordinator of all Oklahoma MRC Disaster Mental Health Volunteers.

Dr. Call has been asked by the editors of Psychology Today to author a special blog, called Crisis Center, on the topic of crises and disasters and their impact on both society and individuals.  You can view these blogs here.

On July 31, 2008 Dr. Call was a guest presenter at the Region VI Human Services & Disaster Summit which was held in Dallas, Texas. His topic was how to develop a Human Services Disaster Response Team.

In 2008, the Oklahoma Department of Health and the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services collaborated in the development of Human Services Disaster Response Teams (HSDRT) across the state.  This was a first ever project for Oklahoma.  In April and May, several teams were organized and developed.  A three day conference was held, beginning July 16, in the Oklahoma City area to provide initial training in Psychological Fist Aid (PFA), Practical Frontline Assistance & Support for Healing II (Pflash II), and Post-Disaster Community Needs Assessment.  The purpose of the HSDRT’s is twofold: to provide disaster mental health services during the 72 hours immediately following a disaster’s impact and to help assess a community’s intermediate and long term mental health needs after a disaster.  CMC, Inc. was selected to help develop the organizational manual for these teams, to help organize the teams, and to provide the PFA and Pflash II instructional training.  For further information feel free to contact us at CMC, Inc.

In November 2007 CRC Press published a new book--Forensic Psychology and Neuropsychology for Criminal and Civil Cases.  Dr. Call was both a Contributing Editor and a chapter author. His chapter is entitled Psychological Consultation in Hostage/Barricade Crisis Negotiation.

Dr. Pfefferbaum, and others, have developed the Terrorism and Disaster Center at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.  The TDC is is a Category II Center of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN). The TDC focuses on achieving an effective, nationwide mental health response to the impact of terrorism and disasters on children, families, and communities. You can view the TDC website here.

In May 2007 Dr. Call was a presenter at the first National Summit on Campus Security.  His topic was The Psychology of Rage: Assessing the Risk of Violence.  One of the sponsors of this conference was the Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism.  This institute was developed as a result of the Oklahoma City bombing.  The MIPT website has extensive databases and can be accessed here.
